GARUDA EXILES KALIYA

Garuda had killed many snakes on the island of Nagalaya. He ate some of them and discarded others. To restrict the killing, the community of snakes arranged for one snake to be placed under a tree as an offering to Garuda every two weeks. This system worked well until the thousand-headed snake Kaliya started to eat the offerings. When Garuda heard about Kaliya’s misbehaviour, he flew to Nagalaya and evicted Kaliya and his family from the island.
