WORSHIPING GOVARDHANA HILL

Nanda Maharaja was preparing to offer a traditional sacrifice to Lord Indra, the king of heaven. However, perceiving Indra’s growing pride, Krishan realised that by blocking the sacrifice He could teach Indra a lesson. By stirring up Indra’s anger, Krishna would force Indra to face his own arrogance and pride.

Krishna, appearing as an innocent village boy, presented Nanda Maharaja the case for replacing the Indra puja with the worship of Govardhana Hill.

At first, Nanda Maharaja was reluctant to engage in a conversation with Krishna about matters he considered beyond Krishna’s understanding, but gradually Krishna convinced Nanda Maharaja to stop the Indra puja and to perform a wonderfully elaborate ceremony to worship Govardhana Hill.
